American Family Children’s Hospital Radiothon: Jessica Duffrin Shares Her Son Rayce Raschka’s Story

We are starting Day 3 of the American Family Children’s Hospital Radiothon for UW Health Kids presented by Settlers bank with the story of 18-year-old Rayce. In January of 2018, Rayce headed to the ER after having a bloody nose that just wouldn’t stop. Immediately he was told to head straight to the AFCH where he received red blood, platelets and had a bone marrow biopsy, but he needed a bone marrow transplant. His sister was an almost perfect match for the bone marrow transplant, but that failed. That same sister then donated stem cells for a 2nd transplant, which also failed. In May of 2018, Rayce was able to celebrate his 18th birthday and high school graduation at AFCH thanks to the wonderful staff. Shortly after, Rayce received his last transplant from an unrelated bone marrow match and a rare White Blood cell transfusion. A fungal infection developed so he was then given an NG tube for nourishment and placed on a ventilator to rest and stop the pain. On June 14th, 2018, Rayce passed away. Become a champion for Rayce.
