Durk’s Bail Bid, Breezy’s UK Blow, & Kendrick’s Historic Heat : The Rewind May 20th

Lil Durk Offers $2.7M Bail Package in Murder-for-Hire Case

Lil Durk is making headlines with his most aggressive push for freedom yet. The Chicago rapper just offered a massive $2.7 million bail package in hopes of securing his release ahead of his October 14 trial. That package includes $1 million in cash, another million from his label, and $700,000 in real estate.

Durk is currently locked up in California, facing federal charges related to a 2022 murder-for-hire plot allegedly targeting Quando Rondo. Prosecutors claim Durk orchestrated and funded the deadly plan that resulted in Rondo’s cousin’s death. While the feds initially included rap lyrics in the indictment, they’ve since removed all music references, stating plainly: “This case isn’t about rap—it’s about murder.”

Despite the serious allegations, Durk remains active from behind bars. In March, he released a new album titled Deep Thoughts and even gave an interview to DJ Akademiks, revealing he’s been learning Arabic during his time inside.

His next big moment comes June 3, when a judge will decide whether the multimillion-dollar offer is enough to secure his temporary release. Until then, the hip-hop world watches closely.

Chris Brown Denied Bail in UK Assault Case as Tour Hangs in the Balance

Chris Brown’s highly anticipated UK tour might be derailed before it even begins. The R&B star was arrested last week and has been denied bail after being charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. The charge stems from a 2023 incident at London’s Tape nightclub, where Brown allegedly assaulted music producer Abe Diaw.

According to reports, Brown is accused of striking Diaw in the head with a tequila bottle and stomping on him while he was unconscious. The altercation was reportedly captured on CCTV and described as “extremely serious” by prosecutors during a May 16 court hearing. Brown was arrested at the Lowry Hotel, his listed UK address, and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on June 13.

The situation casts a shadow over his upcoming Breezy Bowl tour, set to kick off June 15—just two days after his court date. Brown has yet to comment on the case or the status of the tour.

This isn’t Brown’s first clash with UK law. He was previously banned from entering the country following his conviction for assaulting Rihanna, a ban lifted in 2020. Now, with new charges and old controversies back in the spotlight, Brown’s UK comeback is once again in jeopardy.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Makes History With 52 Weeks on Billboard Hot 100

Kendrick Lamar just solidified his place in Hip-Hop history with another record-breaking milestone. His blistering diss track “Not Like Us” has officially become the first rap song ever to spend a full 52 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The track, which initially made waves during Kendrick’s feud with Drake, continues to dominate the airwaves and streaming platforms—currently sitting comfortably at #22.

But that’s just the beginning of Lamar’s recent reign. His collab with SZA, “Luther,” is now on its 13th consecutive week at #1, making it the longest-charting Hip-Hop number one of all time. That puts “Luther” in elite company as one of only 15 songs to hit the 13-week mark at the top.

Kendrick’s Grand National Tour, co-headlined by SZA, is smashing records too. The Arlington, Texas stop brought in $11.822 million, making it the highest grossing show by a Black man in history—outperforming even The Weeknd’s 2022 SoFi Stadium gig. Earlier tour stops shattered Eminem’s previous rap concert record, with Kendrick’s opening night in Minneapolis grossing over $9.1 million.

He’s also set to headline Australia’s Spilt Milk festival later this year, alongside fellow TDE artists ScHoolboy Q and Doechii. Fans are buzzing, and even rap royalty like Pusha T is showing up to Kendrick’s shows.

From the studio to the stage, Kendrick Lamar isn’t just making hits—he’s making history.
