Sisters Chicken and Fish Brings Bayou Flavor to Madison’s Black Restaurant Week

Madtown, get your taste buds ready. The countdown to Madison Black Restaurant Week is on—and one of the most anticipated food spots hitting the scene is none other than Sisters Chicken and Fish.

This family-owned Black business has been serving up Southern comfort food since 2019, and they’re rolling out the fryer and flavor to Warner Park on Sunday, August 10, for the Food Taste Jamboree kickoff event hosted by the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce.

Straight from the South: The Story Behind Sisters Chicken and Fish

Owned by Anissa and Freddy Carter, both transplants from Michigan and Miami, Sisters Chicken and Fish brings Cajun-Creole soul to every plate. With a mission to serve food “just like we would for our own family,” it’s no wonder they’ve built a loyal following across Madison.

💬 “We’re all about that down-home flavor. Wings, catfish, gumbo—made with love and seasoned with soul.”

Their food cart is posted at Wingra & Park, but this week they’re stepping into the spotlight at Black Restaurant Week’s Food Taste Jamboree.

What’s on the Menu?

If you’ve ever pulled up to the cart, you know Sisters isn’t playing around. Their regular menu includes:

  • Chicken Wings (Jerk, Lemon Pepper Wet, Mild, Hot)

  • Fried Catfish, Perch, Frog Legs

  • Fried Ribs

  • Gumbo and Crawfish Étouffée

  • Boudin Balls

  • And their famous Chicken & Sausage Gumbo

But for Sunday’s $5 Food Taste Jamboree special, they’re dropping something brand new:

🔥 Bayou Fries

Cajun-seasoned fries loaded with:

  • Andouille Smoked Sausage

  • Queso

  • Lettuce

  • Smoky Sour Cream

  • Green Onions

💬 “It’s a full meal in a basket. You’re not leaving hungry.”

Six Years Strong—and Still Frying

Operating since 2019—even through the pandemic—Sisters Chicken and Fish has cemented itself as a pillar of Madison’s Black-owned food scene. From food cart regulars to first-time customers at festivals, their mission remains the same: serve with soul.
