Madison’s Nehemiah Center is expanding its impact with the growth of the Justified Anger courses, a community driven learning platform focused on Black history, systems change, and racial justice education. During a recent interview on 93.1 JAMZ, Siobhan from the Nehemiah Center shared how the program has evolved from a single course into a full educational platform with thousands of participants.

The foundation of the program is the Black History for a New Day course, which was originally developed after a community town hall and the widely discussed Justified Anger report. What began as a single class has now reached more than 5,000 participants and grown into a full learning platform with seven courses available.

The Black History for a New Day course is a nine week lecture series that explores Black history from before the Atlantic slave trade to the present day. The course runs from February 16 through April 27, with weekly sessions every Monday evening. Participants also take part in group discussions, a closing potluck, and follow up sessions focused on next steps and community action.

According to Siobhan, the course is designed for everyone, regardless of background or prior knowledge. Much of the information covered is not widely taught or publicly known, making it valuable for individuals, organizations, corporate teams, faith groups, and community leaders.

The Justified Anger learning platform is built around the Nehemiah Center’s mission of systems change. Unlike general online learning platforms, every course is focused on racial equity, community development, and real world application. Future offerings will include corporate focused courses that help organizations apply historical context to modern workplace culture and productivity.

The program continues to grow with plans for a new course titled Justice for a New Day, which is currently in development. Like the original course, it will focus on education, community engagement, and practical steps toward equity.

The platform also includes a free membership option, giving users access to a resource library and course catalog. Paid memberships provide access to full courses and support the nonprofit’s work in the community.

Registration for the upcoming cohort closes in early February, with classes beginning February 16.
