Compound Shows Another Side With New Crossover Single “Trap Dosido”

Madison artist and producer Compound is showing a different side of his sound with his new single “Trap Dosido,” blending hip hop, country, pop and line dance energy into a fun crossover record.
DJ Fusion caught up with Compound at Lab Studios in Madison for 93.1 JAMZ Local Love to talk about the new single, his upcoming project and why experimenting with different genres has always been part of his approach to music.
Compound Introduces a New Sound With “Trap Dosido”

Compound describes his latest direction as a mix of country, rap, trap and pop. He’s already about 10 songs into the project, with “Trap Dosido” serving as one of the first introductions to the new sound.
While longtime listeners may know Compound primarily through hip hop and R&B, the country influence has some personal roots. Compound was born in Madison but spent his early childhood living in the country outside the city.
The new project also gives him an opportunity to focus on positive themes while showing more of his range as a songwriter and producer.

A Song Made to Get Everybody Dancing

“Trap Dosido” combines hip hop drums and bounce with guitar, country influenced rhythms and a line dance feel.
Compound says the idea started when he heard the beat and immediately wanted to create a song people could dance to.
He wanted something TikTok friendly, but the goal was bigger than creating a social media moment. Compound wanted a record that could connect with everyone from kids to adults.
That crossover energy is what makes “Trap Dosido” stand apart while still sounding connected to the artist Madison listeners already know.

Compound Keeps Experimenting

For Compound, mixing genres isn’t something new.
As an artist, songwriter and producer, he sees experimentation as an essential part of creating original music. During the interview, he points to the history of genres like rock and roll, trap and drill as examples of sounds that developed because artists were willing to try something different.

That philosophy is at the center of his latest project.

Instead of worrying about whether “Trap Dosido” should be called country, hip hop, pop or something else, Compound is focused on making music and allowing listeners to decide how they hear it.
“Trap Dosido” Keeps Its Wisconsin Connection

Compound also kept the visual side of the project local.

The “Trap Dosido” music video was filmed at a nonprofit cattle farm, with Compound donating to the organization as part of the production.
He’s already filmed another video for an upcoming song called “Chevrolet,” using locations in Beloit and near Stoughton, Wisconsin.

Matthew James Joins Compound on “Trap Dosido”

“Trap Dosido” features singer Matthew James, a vocalist and touring performer whom Compound brought onto the record because he felt his voice fit the song.

The collaboration adds another dimension to a record built around bringing different sounds and audiences together.
