Frozen Assets Festival

The Clean Lakes Alliance is excited to announce the 13th Annual Frozen Assets Festival, scheduled for February 3rd to 9th, 2025, at The Edgewater in Madison.

Event Highlights:

• Ice and Snow Sailing World Championships: For the first time in the United States, witness athletes race across the ice using skis, snowboards, windsurfing rigs, kites, and sails on Lake Mendota from February 3rd to 8th.
• Frozen Assets Festival: On Saturday, February 8th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., enjoy free, family-friendly activities at The Edgewater and on frozen Lake Mendota. The festival includes figure skating, dance, and science demonstrations, free hot chocolate, ice skating with complimentary skate rentals, snowshoeing, and educational exhibits by the UW-Madison Center for Limnology.
• Frozen Assets 5K Run/Walk: Kick off the festival on February 8th with a unique 5K run or walk entirely on frozen Lake Mendota. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., with the race starting at 10 a.m.. Registration includes a soft t-shirt and a post-race beer or seltzer for participants aged 21 and over. Children 10 and under can participate for free with a registered adult.
• Kites on Mendota: On Sunday, February 9th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., marvel at colorful kites soaring over Lake Mendota, presented by the Wisconsin Kiters Club.

Since its inception, Frozen Assets has raised over $1.2 million for lake improvement projects, educational programs, and water quality monitoring. The festival underscores the year-round value of Madison’s lakes, transforming them into the community’s largest parks during winter.
