The Wisconsin Conference on Latino Arts and Culture is set to take place on May 2-3, 2025, at Centro Hispano of Dane County in Madison, Wisconsin. Hosted by Latinos Organizing for Understanding and Development (LOUD), this two-day statewide event aims to unite Latino artists and arts organizations to delve into various facets of Latino music, film, exhibits, and writing.
Oscar Mireles, the founder of LOUD and host of the conference, anticipates approximately 100 attendees. He emphasizes the event’s significance as an opportunity for artists and community members from across the state to collaborate and envision a future of joint artistic endeavors. Mireles also highlights the excitement of hosting the conference at the newly renovated Centro Hispano, providing a chance for visitors to experience the facility firsthand.
The conference will feature an impressive lineup of artists and speakers, including:

Greg Zelek: Principal organist of the Madison Symphony Orchestra.

Angela Puerta: Colombian musician and six-time Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) award winner.

Juan Garcia Oyervides: Director of Chicana/o and Latinx Studies at UW-Oshkosh.

Dr. Armando Ibarra: Professor in the School for Workers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Karen Menéndez Coller: Executive Director of Centro Hispano.

A highlight of the conference is the gallery show showcasing emerging Latino artists, part of the 11th Annual Latino Art Fair at the Common Wealth Gallery on Madison’s East Side. Attendees can also look forward to performances by local musicians, including guitarist Sergio Nute, marimbist Eric de Los Santos, and the traditional Colombian music ensemble Cumbia Cachaca.
Workshops will cover a range of topics such as film, music, visual arts, and fundraising, providing valuable insights and opportunities for skill development. Dane Arts serves as the presenting sponsor, while Centro Hispano of Dane County is the host agency and venue for the conference.
