It Takes Little To Be Big!

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County, our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We serve about 500 youth each year, but the need is much greater–another 200 youth are still waiting for a mentor. (We’d like to reverse the current trend where young people are waiting to be matched with a mentor and instead, have a pipeline of new mentors waiting to make an impact on the life of a young person.)

In early 2024, we are launching a six-week multi-faceted marketing campaign to recruit more volunteer mentors and address our long waitlist.

What is the campaign message?

“It Takes Little to Be Big” is designed to address the common misperceptions that mentoring takes a lot of time, or requires wisdom and expertise. It doesn’t take much to make an impact on a young kid’s life, and we want to share that message far and wide to reach potential volunteers.

What will the campaign do?

The campaign incorporates various media strategies (digital, print, tv, radio, etc.), local partnerships, online advertising, and in-person recruitment events to raise awareness for our mission and recruit more volunteer mentors.

What is our goal?

Our goal is to recruit 100 new prospective volunteers from February 1st to March 15th. In addition to growing our reach, we also aim to recruit more mentors from diverse backgrounds, which ultimately helps us better serve the youth in our community.
